Something may be considered sacred when it is unique and extraordinary, when it is separated from the common or profane world. The sacred is set apart for special use and treated with reverence, respect, and careful management. Hot springs are considered sacred by many cultures as well as those of us who care about these special places. Since ancient times humans have used hot springs for healing and ritual. Hot mineral water has always been assumed to have healing properties but perhaps the act of bathing in a wild and beautiful place is therapeutic in itself. Through photographs and "meditations" - haiku and short musings - this book offers a glimpse of the extraordinary experience of wild hot spring bathing.
