Résumé du livre
Geohydraulic conditions at and above many of the tunnel levels in Rainier Mesa have resulted in saturated conditions. The resulting discharge of water into the tunnels is accumulated in ponds. However this water is contaminated with radionuclides and other hazardous wastes (such as oils, solvents and acids). The ponded water rapidly migrates downward, taking the radionuclides and other wastes with it. This report describes the subsurface geologic and hydrologic conditions of Rainier Mesa. Based upon available data, estimates are calculated for pond evaporation and infiltration. Year estimates of radioactivity released into the groundwater are also presented upon recent analysis of discharge water.
