Hristo Botev (6 January 1848 [O.S. 25 December 1847] - 1 June [O.S. 20 May] 1876) was a Bulgarian poet and national revolutionary. He is widely considered by Bulgarians to be a symbolic historical figure and national hero. His poetry reflected the sentiments of the poor people, filled with revolutionary ideas, struggling for their freedom against both foreign and domestic tyrants.
