The Father spells out what amount of land, slaves, animals, furniture and grain he will give his son upon the marriage. It is probable that John Alexander was a descendant of the founder of Alexandria, Captain John Alexander who surveyed in 1669 and later purchased the 6000-acre grant made by Governor Berkeley to Robert Howsing.
