"Few Civil War histories review the intrinsic link between logistics and operations. This Leavenworth Paper examining two major Civil War campaigns in Virginia -- Maj. Gen. George Brinton McClellan's 1862 Peninsula Campaign and Lt. Gen. Ulysses Simpson Grant's 1864 Overland Campaign -- helps to fill this void by providing insights into the critical role logistics played in these campaigns. McClellan and Grant possessed a broad grasp of sustainment and its impact on operational reach.
