Jean-Luc MoulÈne is chiefly known as a photographer. Since the mid-eighties, he has been working with everyday scenes and standard images (landscapes, still lifes, portraits etc.) with a view to deconstructing the social, economic, aesthetic and historical parameters that producing images invariably entails. An output of drawings and volumes has constantly accompanied his photographic work. It is developed in the studio as an independent area of research, while the photography relies on walking around in real life situations, projects, even casting around a status, object or gesture. The drawing can record a quick, 'naive' outline, or possibly searches for space and organisational diagrams. The publication brings together a selection of photos and drawings, dating from 1977 to 2008. Apart from a few works, the emphasis is on the years 2000–2008. The bilingual monographic catalogue also includes critical essays by Jean-Pierre Criqui, Yve-Alain Bois and an interview with the artist by Briony Fer. English and French text.
