"George Gray (1725-1800) m[arried] 1752 Martha Ibbetson (1734-1781). George Gray, believed to have been the fourth of the name in direct descent from father to son, was born in Germantown, Pa., 26 October, 1725. He was the son of George Gray 3rd (1693-1748/9) and his wife Mary (maiden name unknown) who was the widow of Joseph Ewen of Germantown. The Grays lived near Kingsessing, in Blockey Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, and were the proprietors of "Gray's Ferry," the lower ferry crossing the Schuylkill. ... In 1776-77 he was a member of the Committee of Safety of Pennsylvania, and in 1777 was chairman of the Board of War and Ordnance, one of the most important committess of Congress; and after the close of the Revoloution and the drawing up of the Constitution for the new gevernment, he was in 1787 one of the delegates from Philadelphia to ratify that documnent for the state of Pennsylvania."--P. 1.
