James White describes his experience descending the Colorado River on a makeshift raft through the Grand Canyon after he and fellow prospectors were attacked by Ute Indians in Colorado. Includes the original mailing envelope with a return address of St. Thomas, Arizona Territory, October 1, 1867. Also includes handwitten notes (2 pages, unsigned and undated), attributed to Charles Christopher Parry, concerning part of the journey taken by White.
