General description of the collection: The Herbert E. Zimmerman papers include a completed World War II Veterans Survey questionnaire which traces Zimmerman's military service and post-war activities and comments on various aspects of military life. He does not give much detail on his experiences except for recreation which consisted of sports, drinking, and gambling, depending on location. The reconnaissance unit rarely had any free time. The Atlantic trip was notable for the terrible food and crowded conditions. He found the German propaganda humorous.
