Papal pronouncements on marriage and the family made from 1878 to 1954 are located, analyzed and grouped under appropriate headings to provide a means of reference. Encyclicals, allocutions, and addresses of the popes are quoted. Among the topics are the emancipation of women, sex education, euthanasia and the family in modern society, including a section on the family under Communism. A chronological list of papal documents quoted and references for original and English texts and a bibliography of books, periodicals, pamphlets and newspaper articles on the various topics are appended.
