Résumé du livre
A fair-copy manuscript of the only two long works written by prominent Royalist politician Sir Philip Warwick, including one of the most important firsthand accounts of the Civil War years and Charles I’s final months. He wrote his Memories of the Reign of King Charles the First between 1675 and 1677 during the Long Prorogation of Parliament, and wrote Of Government, as Examined by Reason, Scripture, and Laws of the Land in 1678. This volume, which is dated August 28, 1679, was overseen by him, or possibly written in his own hand, with the sole purpose of being included among his other books. The inclusion of 'Ultima Manu,' or 'by the last hand' suggests that Warwick himself considered this the final and most perfect copy of the texts. Despite his wishes to the contrary, both works were posthumously published - almost certainly from this manuscript - in 1701 and 1694 respectively. For the most part, the published versions closely follow the original text, though there are some minor textual discrepancies throughout. [Adapted from dealer description]
