Résumé du livre

George Miller West (1831-1912) wrote these memoirs of a trip to Oregon in 1853 with the Butler wagon train sometime later in his life. This collection includes a typescript of a portion of the memoirs. Also included are nine letters written by Butler family members to relatives in Monmouth, Illinois. Describes Council Bluffs (then known as Kanesville) as a wild town with thousands of emigrants and covered wagons. Also mentions: campsites, ferrying and fording streams, care of livestock, and supplies on the trail. The letters (1850-58) describe the journey west, the area around Monmouth, Oregon, economics and prices, and family health.
