This book of poetry begins with poems penned by A young African American woman at age 16 and ends with her most recent poem penned at 26, Roses. This book is not only a coming of age story but also deals with topics of abuse, self-love, self-hatred, the effects of slavery, and some of the internal and external struggles of blacks in America.
