Résumé du livre
This is an account of Jim MacGregor's early life and how part-Maori Hemi Makarika, Jim's other self, came into being. Their joint achievements included: war service, forestry cadetship, a career in teaching and school administration and an unabiding interest in world travel. A growing interest in the cause of Maori education led to the acquisition of te reo, tikanga Maori and the further development of ideas that had been initially formulated during the author's time as Principal of Wainuiomata College. He retired to Hokio Beach and continued to study, teach and travel. Whakapapa was researched and promoted at a series of hui at Horowhenua, Whanganui and Hastings. Jim MacGregor died in 2004, shortly after the composition of the last chapters of this autobiography. He believed that he had proved himself in both Pakeha and Maori cultures.
