Résumé du livre

During manufacturing inspection, a number of calandria tubes have given ultrasonic responses that are close to the rejection criteria based on responses from standard surface defects; however, surface defects were not found in the tubes. an examination of four reject calandria tubes was carried out (a) to correlate ultrasonic responses and microstructural features (b) to provide data on the dimensions of the features causing the ultrasonic responses (c) to develop accept/reject criteria based on ultrasonic responses. the work showed that two principal microstructural features caused the responses - internal cracks and long stringers. recommendations are made for acceptance or rejection based on the characteristics of the ultrasonic response.
