The name of Merete Bodelsen will be familiar to students of Gauguin from her articles on problems connected with this artist in The Burlington Magazine and the Gazette des Beaux-Arts. She is a specialist on ceramics and editor of the Biographical Dictionary of Danish Artists: Weilbacks Kunstnerleksikon, vol. I-III. With the present publication she is the first to give an account of Gauguin's ceramic activities and show the part played by the activities in his artistic development.
