Jessica Backhaus' book is a tribute to Gisele Freund on what would have been her one hundredth birthday in December 2008, a testament to the friendship between the great photographer and the photography student in Paris during the 1990s. Intended as a posthumous birthday present, Backhaus compiled a collection of images that visually convey what the great artistic and intellectual figures of the twentieth century taught her.
