Résumé du livre

Western and eared grebes are colonial nesting waterbirds that have wide distribution across western & central North America. The information in this report represents the findings from the fourth year of surveying western & eared grebe populations in the Stony Plain area of Alberta. Activities carried out in this year (2004) included monitoring the primary colonies of grebes in the area, with emphasis on western grebes due to their designation as sensitive in Alberta; opportunistic inventorying of other lakes in the study area to locate new colonies; initiating western grebe surveys in the Parkland region; and assisting with colonial waterbird surveys in the Lac La Biche and Cold Lake areas. Results are presented with regard to numbers of grebes & nests, and some comparisons are made with previous surveys. Management concerns and human impacts on grebe colonies are also discussed.
