Hammond in Columbia, South Carolina, enclosing a news release of Strom Thurmond's speech, 8 April 1961 in Columbia before the Sons of the American Revolution; copies of speeches, 11 and 15 April, made at Charleston and Miami before the South Carolina Confederate War Centennial Commission and the Life Insurers Conference (speeches focused on national defense and the economy); letter to Thomas L. Parry of Tilbury, Ontario, 29 September 1964, expressing appreciation for Parry's letter commending his decision to switch to the Republican Party and stating "I have received thousands of communications with only a very small smattering of unfavorable comments."
