Includes reminiscences of his childhood, student days at Harvard University, and his 1849 voyage to San Francisco; and reminiscent and contemporary accounts of his life in San Francisco, where he worked for various pioneer newspapers and publications, and served as a minister of Grace Episcopal Church. Also includes frequent references to Ewer's political and business activities in San Francisco.
