Résumé du livre
The purpose of this biography is to restore the woman behind the name as nearly as possible from the existing documentary materials. It is not a history of the woman suffrage movement, but the history of a woman's life. At the same time the movement, which was as much a part of her as her own arms and legs, forms the foreground of her picture. Also essential to her portrait are the many historical persons and events with whom and with which she was vitally connected. but the main effort has been to depict her as a human being with arms and legs, impulses and emotions, experiences and reactions,; not a s the figurehead of the feminist cause
