Résumé du livre
Summary: Can art as a medium of critical analysis reflect America's new situation? The exhibition on contemporary American art entitled "Carnival within" is inspired by belief in the possibility of transformation, by the motto that helped Barack Obama win the election to become next U.S. President: "Change. The change we need. Change we can believe in." "Carnival within", "made in America" addresses in various media and guises excess, exaggeration, gigantomania, sensationalism and parody. With its reference to carnival-like forms of showmanship and spectacle, the exhibited works also touch on key topics of American culture: utopias, religion, racial and gender issues, immigration, consumption and violence. Organized by the New York curators Sabine Russ and Gregory Volk in collaboration with the Berlin art historian Uta Grundmann, the exhibition is accompanied by this publication "Discover us!". Exhibition: Uferhallen in the Wedding district of Berlin, 28 March - 3 May 2009.
