The text is organised chronologically from Louis Esson, Vance Palmer and Katharine Susannah Pritchard to Michael Gow and Jack Davis, and gives an analysis of representative plays, placing them in their historical and cultural context. Includes references, a select bibliography and an index. The author is professor of theatre and dance at the University of Hawaii. His other publications include 'David Mamet'.
