The main problems encountered by the industry are related to shortage of feedstock, such as potassium and phosphate rock, shortage of transport equipment, and lack of mechanical handling facilities. These infrastructure deficiencies contribute to farm level problems of supply-quantities, types, and timing. Future investments in the fertilizer industry should be directed at these aspects of distribution rather than handling more production capacity.
