Gordon Leigh Phillips (1918-1944) was born in Geary, Oklahoma to Hunter Alexander Phillips and Marion Kate Mitchell. Gordon entered the army in 1943 and he traveled to France on 18 June 1944 with the rest of the 330th Regiment. He left behind his wife, Bess Richert, whom he had married in 1942. Gordon and other soldiers fought in northern Normandy where, after six days combat service he was killed. Less than two months later his only child, Gordon Leigh Phillips, Jr. (1944- ) was born in El Reno, Oklahoma. Descendants live in the United States and Canada.
