Chiefly, a record of 16 generations of descendants of John Clay of Derby. John Clay flourished during the late 1500's and had a son John Clay of Gloucester who died in 1632 in Wales. He had a son, Sir John Clay who was born in 1592. Sir John Clay married Anne. They had a son, Capt. John Clay. Sir John Clay died in 1638 in Charles City, Virginia. Capt. John Clay was born in Charles City, Virginia and died about 1655. He had a son, Henry Clay who married Mary Mitchell in 1708. She was the daughter of William Mitchell and Elizabeth. They had two sons. Their first son was William Mitchell Clay was born in 1709. He married Martha Ann Lewis, daughter of Col. Lewis and Elizabeth Warner. Descendants lived in Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky and elsewhere.
