Christian Gehman lived in Grosshoechstetten, Switzerland. He was held prisoner for his religious beliefs in Bern in 1710. His grandsons, Christian and Benedict, emigrated in 1732 and settled in Pennsylvania. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania.
