Robotic Cleaning of Toronto Transit Commission Subway Cars

Presently, the undersides of subway cars are cleaned manually by blowdown and degreasing. This report illustrates the feasibility and benefits of using robots for this process. Topics covered include: undercar cleaning for preventive maintenance; robots in hazardous environments; how robotics can improve operations at the TTC Wilson Carhouse; demonstrations of the TTC robot; scope of work performed; logistics for implementation; and conclusions and recommendations.
