The year 2011 marked the fortieth anniversary of Lorna Lutz Heyge's entry into the field of early childhood music education. Since 1971, Heyge has developed a philosophy of early childhood education pedagogy that continues to evolve, as does her teaching curriculum and the depth of her influence around the world on the education of young children. The purpose of the present dissertation is to document the development and the theoretical framework of Lorna Lutz Heyge's early childhood pedagogical philosophy. In so doing, the present dissertation will document the beginning and evolution of an early childhood music and movement program, including its curriculum, as well as a professional association and a professional journal, thus adding a tile to the broad mosaic of music-education pedagogy as suggested by Heller and O'Connor (2006). - Introduction.
