Citations include changes during past decades in the prevalence, distribution, and progression of dental caries have implications for diagnosis, treatment, prediction of risk, and prevention in individuals or populations. Traditional approaches for treating carious lesions in a surgical manner are being replaced by newer strategies that emphasize disease prevention and conservation.
