Résumé du livre

Back in the day, when manufacturing in the U.S. spawned a wave of mechanical innovation and production, another industry—packaging, employed thousands in industrial centers across America. Americans were making stuff: from scissors to safety pins to handkerchiefs and they packaged them in boxes. Lindroth's photographs examine some of these containers in various states of decay and disintegration, stripped of their identity. Enlarging them to their exhibition size of 44 x 55 inches or larger, they confuse the viewer—the grand scale revealing all of their imperfections and faded color. The resulting trompe l'oeil images show how similar they are to the panoply of art historical styles of 20th century masters like Ellsworth Kelly or Mark Rothko.
