Résumé du livre
Life without your parents, being split up from your siblings, brought up by strangers in council run children's homes and then taken away to live in a convent. Beaten by nuns and having a strict religious regime thrust at you. And all this was before the age of ten. The story follows the author's life from his earliest memories of cruelty and continues until he was old enough to leave the so-called 'care' of the local authorities. Originally written as memoirs for his children it developed into a detailed recount of life for a child aged between 3 -- 16 placed in the care of local authority. The author does not wish to wallow in self-pity - merely to tell his story. Beatings, stale food, poor hygiene, non-caring attitude and strict discipline were the every day life for the author and many children like him.
