Résumé du livre

The three children of Ganzhong Yang were only in their teens when Yang was already in his late fifties. He has worked as a heavy laborer for as long as his children could remember. His middle and favorite child, Yunrong, was always curious about why her father had sad and melancholy eyes and felt that his elegant temperament did not resonate with his social status. “My life could be a book. I’ll tell you my story when you are a bit older.” He has told her. Unfortunately, Ganzhong never had a chance to tell his stories. Many years later, Yunrong has managed to uncover many details from her father’s past through numerous sources. Ganzhong’s life stories, indeed, were nothing short of the sort told in books: His unusual childhood, his impressive military experiences, the loss of a true love, the rise to the long-time head of a local government, and the fall to a laborer during the chaos in China in the 1960s. His eventful and extraordinary life has manifested itself into this epic and breathtaking book.
