Résumé du livre
Simulated occupancy tests were conducted in a 3300-square foot area of the fifth story of an abandoned warehouse in Chicago, Illinois, during March 1963. The purpose of these tests was to obtain engineering data and observations of the thermal environmental factors for a building type which may serve as a possible fallout shelter. This was one of a series of tests to determine the minimum ventilation rates necessary to maintain thermally habitable conditions for long-term occupancy in identified fallout shelters. The metabolic heating effects of 330 occupants was duplicated with mechanical devices and the shelter was ventilated with the ambient air. In addition to the ventilation tests, air infiltration through the shelter walls was measured.
