Smedberg worked in the company's New York City office and much of the correspondence is on letterhead of the Rutland Marble Co., and Baxter Manufacturing Co., and is reports from the Rutland and Salem, N.Y. quarry managers. Repeat correspondents include John N. Baxter, J.B. Holley, Charles A. Frost, B.F. Woodruff, John D. Allan, N.P. Simon, H.H. Love, C. Clark, Charles L. Sanford, E.F. Dana, William W. Clark, and J. Clark. There are also letters from Redfield Proctor, first as manager of the Sutherland Falls Marble Co., and then as manager of the Rutland Marble Co. planning the creation of the Vermont Marble Co.
