Résumé du livre

Everything in the practical conduct of life depends upon character. What is character? What do we mean by it? As when we say such a man is a bad character, or a good character, or when we use the words, "I don't like the character of that man." By character we mean what a man really is, at the back of all his actions and his reputation and the opinion the world has of him, in the very depth of his being, in the sight of God, "to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid."

Originally published over 100 years ago, this long overdue reissue of "Life and Conduct" is a rare treat for today's parents: a wise and readable book on instilling positive values in young people that derives its wisdom from the heart and essence of Christianity rather than from secular professionals.

London born author James Cameron Lees here draws on his own experiences as a Church of Scotland minister and author to show how the classic Christian principles of proper living and sanctity can be imparted into terms easily applied to children even to the very young.

Originally selected from the "Guild Series" for young people, "Life and Conduct" is, in the author's words, "commended it to all young people who are desirous to form their character on the Christian model and to carry religious principle into the practical affairs of common life."
