Into the Courtyard of the Gentiles

In the year of Our Lord, 1216, the Order of Preachers was formally established. St. Dominic had received the final approval from Pope Honorius III. In 2016 the Order will celebrate 800 years of preaching the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In 1939, the Province of St. Albert the Great, USA, was established, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014. On that occasion, in January, at their annual Provincial Assembly, the brothers of the province gathered to say thank you for all that has been, and for all that is to come, yes, to borrow an expression of Dag Hammarskjöld's, the United Nations second Secretary- General and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. They were treated with three excellent presentations and also thereby challenged to look to their future. Michael Mascari, O.P., himself a son of the Province of St. Albert the Great, and a former Provincial of the province, currently serving as Socius for Studies to the Master of the Order; Joseph Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Indianapolis; and Dr. Scott Appleby, a professor of history at the University of Notre Dame and Director of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies were the presenters. The province is pleased to offer those presentations here for continued study and reflection.
