This article explores exchange relationships of different kinds and maintains that they are an essential and common component of economic activity and of Judeo-Christian morality. Although risks and costs must be faced, individuals and regions can become better off through self-interested trade and investment exchanges. Jesus tied exchange behaviors to what life is like in the kingdom of heaven and to the spiritual well-being of individuals.
