"Dog Hospital represents two ways of processing illness. The text is a recording of a game my songs, Brendan and Paul, were playing one day using wooden blocks. I was in the room with them and realized that their game, 'Dog Hospital' was their way of using symbolic play to process the last six months of our lives, which had been defined by my diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. I decided to respond to their text with images representing my own experiences over the last year. The resulting work is a record of parallel understandings told through the lenses of parent and child." -- Artist's statement.
