The year is 1906, a time of political unrest and social upheaval in Texas. Before he goes, Isabel Delaney's dying brother intends to see her safely married to rancher and emerging political figure Myles Donovan. Myles is a charismatic man with strong political aspirations. He needs a proper wife to further his ambitions. An old maid school teacher is the perfect choice. The newly married couple is thrust into the public eye when Myles becomes democratic candidate for governor. Scandal erupts, forcing him to reveal secrets from his past that could cost him the race. It could also alienate the wife he has grown to love.
