Marcel Odenbach is a pioneer of video art and one of its most important exponents. This catalogue is the first ever to take an in-depth look at Odenbach's career as a draughtsman and collage artist. The retrospective begins with works from the 1970s in which Odenbach ironically describes his living environment and his relationship with the world. While the collages from the 1980s form conceptual studies for his video installations, they also function as autonomous combinations of text and images. Odenbach's art calls for a reflective way of seeing and requires an active viewer, particularly for his more recent cut-paper works.
