Observations of Thermal Structure in the Central Pacific

The ultimate goal of this field program, called AIRPAC, in conjunction with other programs in NORPAX, is to describe and quantitatively explain the observed temporal and spatial fluctuations of the near-surface thermal field. A knowledge of why the subsurface temperature patterns change and their relation to sea surface temperature anomalies, could have a direct bearing on climate forecasts. (Author).
