Jerry Johnson has grown up in a house of arguing and smashed glass. Struggling to fit in as a teenager, failing in education, he turns to anarchic actions like blocking traffic and vandalising public property. He's arrested for arson. He's former teacher from school gets a restraining order against him. Struggling in unemployment and looking after his mentally unwell mother, Jerry pursues romantic relationships, all perverse and short term. Will he ever be a success?
