This report is a review and assessment of the literature pertaining to the critical heat flux performance of candu type fuel assemblies. the results of approximately 100 investigations are analysed and the experimentally observed parametric effects on chf are systematically presented. a rationalization of the results is generally attempted. mechanisms are suggested and discussed in detail, and the supporting and conflicting evidence outlined. recommendations are offered for further analyses and experimentation where needed to complement existing test data and to reduce uncertainties to acceptable levels.
