Résumé du livre

Public institutions are continuously criticised for their lack of performance. Often, justifiably so, as evidenced by well publicised poor audit findings and other applied performance measures. But the reality is also that good performance is taken for granted, especially when publicly valued outcomes are achieved through services appropriately delivered and integrated. In this book, the relevance of a public value orientation for institutional performance and management applications to enhance the measured actions of public value leaders and managers towards better performance are discussed.

Johan Burger is an emeritus professor at Stellenbosch University. He has an academic career now spanning 30 years, during which he was also Director of the School of Public Leadership for 10 years. Prior to his academic career, he was an architect and construction project manager in the public sector. Initially, he project-managed the construction of educational facilities, but in the latter part became involved in low-income housing project management, where engaging with communities and households became thoroughly instilled as indispensable way of work.
