Résumé du livre

A guide to the philosophical writings of Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43BC) in which a definition of the legacy of pagan economics revolves around the thoughts of Plato and Aristotle. Plato was concerned more with ideals rather than reality; whilst Aristotle held the view that creativity was supreme. Both owe their thoughts to Socrates according to the author of this guide, but Cicero rejected the Xenophonic and Aristotelian definitions of economics to suggest it was 'to serve bodily needs'. Section 2 on primal order examines the structure and daily life in several ancient Empires, including Greece and Rome. A bibliography accompanies each section, and the guide includes an appendix.
