Résumé du livre

Just published: the 5th (2019) edition of the well received Concise Sleep Medicine Handbook is now available. The current edition continues to fulfill the goal of the previous editions in summarizing the essentials of sleep medicine as a study aid and review for candidates preparing for the ABIM examinations in sleep medicine and also to provide an easy reference guide and clinical resource for the busy sleep physician. Sleep disorders categories as laid out in the latest/3rd edition (2014) of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders are extensively referenced and essentials of the latest AASM Manual for the Sleep and Associated Events ( Version 2.5,2018) are summarized. Recently published guidelines and earlier AASM practice parameters and consensus statements remaining on the official SLEEP and the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine websites are outlined as well. Recent advances in sleep medicine and important reviews from peer reviewed journals are referenced as are Medicare policies for PAP therapy and scoring of respiratory events. Chapters cover both sleep physiology and pharmacology. New additions include comments on personalized management of OSA and the interaction between sleep disorders and cancer. Practical approaches in the management of some of the most common sleep problems are presented (eg insomnia and OSA) and each chapter ends with review questions. The book maintains the format of using bullet points to facilitate review and highlights factoids needing particular emphasis.
