This book provides a detailed analysis of the production and circulation of the imagery used in the women's suffrage movement, including banners, posters and postcards. The suffragist use of spectacle as part of their propaganda campaign was without precedent. The author discusses the Artist's Suffrage League, the Suffrage Atelier and the contributions of artists such as Mary Lowndes, Sylvia Pankhurst and Duncan Grant and provides detailed analyses of the production and circulation of their work, the sources of its imagery and its relation to the propaganda of the burgeoning anti-suffrage campaign.
