Résumé du livre
John Smith, of Middletown and later Simsbury, Connecticut, was a ship captain and merchant. His five account books detail sales and exchanges with a number of ship crews and individuals. The first volume (1796-1808) also includes a two page list of his household expenses. Included with the second volume is a deposition from a legal case involving Smith as owner of the Sloop Almena. The pages of the second volume (1796-1814) also served occasionally as a journal. One entry (page 54) is believed to be about the War of 1812. In the third volume (1803-1838), names that can be traced are of Simsbury residents. There is also mention of paying taxes in Warren. Following Smith's death, the volume were used for pressing flowers. Several pages in the fourth volume (1804-1822) list notes Smith held against people. Separate pages in this volume are in regard to Smith's purchase of land in Ohio. Some of the names in the final volume (1818-1832) are the same as found in the third.
