Résumé du livre
Born in Germany in 1674, Matthew Buchinger moved to the British Isles where he was notorious for his exhibitions of conjuring, swordplay, bowling, and dancing. He played over half a dozen musical instruments, though he had no arms or legs. He was only twenty-nine inches tall but married four times and fathered fourteen children.Buchinger was also a master of calligraphic styles and he often created micrographic specimens that were only visible with the aid of magnification. Samples of his work grace many important collections, as do the handbills and broadsides featuring his amazing skills. This fascinating and beautiful volume is the result of one such collection and combines Ricky Jay's passion for the extraordinary with his erudition as a scholar.
